Lots of Football and Time to Wind Down
We’ve both been knocking ourselves out since the holidays were finally over. We have so much to catch up on. Not yet fully accomplished, but we did a lot of work, ate a lot of great meals, etc. We have been trying to eat healthily, catch up also on medical and dental visits, see my new book through production, and for Woody to continue doing his interviews and writing/recording his weekly commentaries.
Now we are hoping the rest of the 3-day weekend is slower paced and more conducive to taking it as easy as we ever do. We’re not good at slowing down. So much impinges. So much in an old house needs fixing. Plus, we’re in the middle of seed ordering. Something has changed. One company, the one we order from a lot, is now charging $3 for their catalog. They never sent out any notification of that. I was waiting and waiting for their catalog to come, as I always order more from them than any other seed company. But it didn’t come until it’s past the time we usually do our seed orders. I called them. That’s when I paid the money but then the woman, who as rather snippy, told me it wouldn’t come for 2 weeks at least. So yesterday before the Bills/Broncos game, we did an online order together. That never works all that well, but we did it.
Now I’ll get together all the other catalogs that came. I don’t think even Burpee has come. Nor Parks. How different this than last year when they started arriving at around Thanksgiving. What is going on in the world of seed catalogs?
It’s begun to snow now and Woody has gone off to the dump, hours earlier than usual. When it snows, the dump (now known as the Recycling Center) usually closes. We’re overflowing with paper trash from all the housekeeping in my office I carried out this week The waste basket was totally full and then some. Buckwheat pancakes this morning that I’ll start as soon as he gets back.
This is an unusually brutal winter. In the past decade we have had rather mild winters here on the Outer Cape, but every so often, we get a lot of snow. It seems this winter will be colder than usual as it has been so far and much snowier. It’s coming down hard as I write this. Pretty, yes, but hard to get around in for me.
