Hello, Sun!

After two years of waking every day to new horrors, new cruelty, new repression, more rights stripped from us, nasty masked thugs terrorizing neighbors, arresting, imprisoning, or deporting hard working folks embedded in family and neighborhoods and workplaces, stupid tariffs making things more expensive, insulting allies and worshipping dictators, stripping food and health care from those who most need it, weakening public education, giving away beautiful public  lands to developers,  dismissing vaccines, affordable health insurance, science and funding for work on cancer and other diseases, despising the arts—after daily doses in the morning and out of the TV as we ate supper, darkness growing ever more prevalent – people have finally spoken out loud and clear.  No more of this dangerous shit!

Woody went to bed around 10 pm but I stayed up; till just before midnight, when we finally took over the Senate. I knew if I went to bed worrying about the Senate, I would never sleep.

And in the morning, more good news continued.  I hadn’t felt like this since Obama won, and as lousy as the Bushes were, Trump, Musk and Vance are far, far worse. The destruction he has committed will take twenty years or more to fix – if we can still fix it. Climate change it almost out of control. So much is broken.

This morning after refusing to take responsibility for the tsumani, he gave the American people the finger by appointing a far-right fascist as his new chief of staff.  He intends to go on doing as much damage as he possibly can before Congress can stop him.

I am still enjoying the new possibilities for democracy and hope, justice and mercy – a government that works for the people rather than just billionaires and cronies. No longar a regime that believes that whatever can’t be monetized for their profit must be gutted it or gotten rid of.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the boogeymen for generations – calling any progressive ideas communist, using Socialist as an insult, focusing on punishing non-white and anyone whose sexual or religious or racial or ethnic identity is not that of the white rich right-wing Christian minority – seems to have abated. Many young people have gone to school or simply know gay and lesbian kids and/or adults and many of us know transgender people. We live with them and know and trust them and don’t froth at the mouth about their demand to exist and have rights.

There’s a long way to go to make a just and more equal and more affordable country for all of us. We still have much work to do to get back the rights they have taken from us and are still trying to take. But now that the sun has risen, let the work begin.
