Hard rain, huge hawk

My ZOOM reading and conversation for REVOLUTION SPACE scheduled for  this Sunday was postponed until Sunday November 22 because my dear friend, the fine poet Charles Coe, had to go into the hospital. 2 pm Sunday November 22nd.\

We had a interesting visitor Sunday morning before Woody put this blog up.  I always write the blog Saturday morning but he was too busy yesterday to post it. We had a very large hawk sitting in the chaemycyparis right in front of the porch.  It was a Northern Goshawk, a bird I had never before seen.  Gorgeous and big.  He sat there quite a while as Woody photographed him.

My computer went haywire this week – not just one thing wrong, but several all at once.  I had PC doc here yesterday morning, and now, so far it’s working again.  I’m so dependent on computers and they are much less reliable than they used to be –too complicated programs hardly anyone but programmers use. When things go bizarre and unusable as they did this week, I used to be able to fix them.  No longer. And every time there’s an upgrade, my computer downgrades.

We finally seem to have broken the long, long drought the moved into another weather pattern.  It has rained lightly several times over the past two weeks.  Then we had an 18 hour rain Thursday into Friday this week.  The water table is still way short of rain, but the plants that survived the drought are doing fine. We haven’t had a frost yet, although Dale and Stephen who live about a mile away did experience one. We may or may not have one tonight or later in the week.  Right now it’s still too wet to cover any plants that need protection but we’ll try to get to that if a frost seems likely.

The election weighs on me.  Covid will go on and on and on if Trump wins or the Republicans manage to steal the election, as they’re trying to do.  The economy will stagnate further.  Many more people will die.  Many more will be thrust into poverty.  The atrocities the ICE and the border patrol are carrying out will continue.  Trump will suck the dick of dictators and continue destroying our relationship with allies.  All he asks of every situation is will it benefit him in elections or make him richer.  The police will be emboldened as will the extreme right, our own homegrown fascists.  Our air and water will be more polluted,  More species will go extinct.  The oceans will continue to flood low lying land and more arctic species will die out as the water warms. So will fish like salmon. More hurricanes, more wildfires, hotter and longer droughts.

The Pats suck this year.  I understand what so any fans experience who have mediocre or lousy teams.  it’s new to us.  We were spoiled.  Boston had many winning teams, always some team came out on top.  Not this year.

I’m reading Robert Lifton’s book about cults, interesting, for the most part.  Also reading Sondra Zeidenstein’s poetry collection CONTRARIES, which I’m enjoying.

[MP1] Halloween is tonight, but it has never meant less to me than it does this year.  Who needs fake ghosts and goblins to scare you when we have Trump?

I’ve been watching Queen’s Gambit on Netflix with fascination. We’ve been eating lots of oysters – we got 100 of them about ten days ago.  Last ones scalloped last
