Happy Anniversary to Us
This was our 49th from the time we got together. It fell on Monday, which is not a day we can do much to celebrate. Woody made a wonderful supper of porerthouse steak, bulghur and garden salad, then we did what we usually do on the actual anniversary, we went with a bottle of champagne to Moby Dick’s seafood restaurant and had a delightful dinner, Usually when we have wine I drink a glass, he has two and we reseal the bottle for the next day. But we split a whole bottle, which made me a little, pleasantly tipsy. The owner gave us dessert and a gift certificate for next year, our 50th.
Thursday, our usual sea breeze vanished and the heat came on strong. It almost reached 90 here. Woody worked outside almost the entire day and was exhausted by supper. I cooked a stir fry using our bok choi and Napa cabbage. I froze five pounds of spinach. We ‘d planned a full day’s work expecting it to top out @ 70. Instead it was our first hot day of the year and knocked us both out. I actually slept with air conditioning for half the night till the heat and humidity went way down when a cold front came in; very, very welcome.
The repairman fixed the dish washer, which made us both happy. But he couldn’t fix the upper oven yet as he had to order a part that will come who knows when. Everything breaks down. We know our Subaru is getting old, nearing a 100,000 miles on it and that we should quickly buy another used Subaru – but we can’t make ourselves spend the money with everything so unpredictable and a recession likely.
We’ll watch the Belmont and maybe some other races that lead up to it tomorrow. Chicken tonight and the leftover chicken tomorrow will become chicken salad. They keep moving the Triple Crown later and later which is a nuisance if you eat always between 6t and 6:30.
I sent my book off Tuesday to Sibylline Press but aside from a notice they got it, haven’t heard anything back yet about what they might want changed, added or subtracted.
I bought the last few herbs I needed to for my herb garden on Monday and planted them Wednesday. My pollinator garden and herb garden are complete. I think my front raised bed is also. I planted nasturtiums I’d soaked for two days in three long pots. Woody placed them by the steps beside the house. He has plowed his lower garden and set up bean poles with string. This morning, before he does the week’s shopping, he’ll put down irrigation. I think he did 6 supports, teepees, bean poles, whatever you’d call them. He’ll probably plant on Saturday or Sunday, as after he puts down irrigation, he has to do the week’s shopping in Orleans. I have indoor work to do today including mending. And of course the laundry, programing the DVR for the next three day’s TV. We started watching the Brett Favre documentary on Netflix last night. We conked out before we saw even half of it. But it seems interesting.
