Great Holidays But Time to Get Back to Normal

Both Woody and I took this week off from work. We have been seeing friends, exchanging presents and eating feasts that friends or we prepare. I have been going to bed later than usual and getting up much later. I have to start adjusting that over this weekend, as Monday and Tuesday, I have to rise early again.

The biggest feast we didn’t prepare was at the Grotzes on Christmas itself. Tasha really out did herself and we all were very generous with each other. Now all but one small gift has gone to the friends they were wrapped for. I have to arrange to deliver it. But now it’s clean up time. I must get my office back in working order. Thirty gifts were wrapped here and stored there And boxes upon boxes that stuff came in.  A couple of things go back, one to Garnet Hill [too big]  and one to Amazon [didn’t suit]. Dale will take care of them on Tuesday.

After last week’s epic mouse hunts [five mice], this week was calm until Christmas night when there were TWO mouse hunts. One downstairs and one upstairs. All three cats were very involved and except for Shaman who has endless energy, Willow and Schwartzie are dead to the world this morning, both hunts were a bloody success. More cleaning up to do.

The tree has been exceptionally captivating this year. When we trimmed it, I discarded a number of battered or otherwise unsatisfactory ornaments. It is                         a pleasure to look at it. I meditate upon it when the lights are turned on.

No writing this week except for an occasional FB post I can’t see and this blog.

We are eating healthily when we don’t have guests and aren’t going out. There’s no denying that during the holiday season, we eat a lot of things that aren’t our usual meals and are rich. One of Woody’s favorite parties is Tony & Karen’s Christmas Eve Twenty Fishes bash. Fried smelts, stuffed squid, monk fish cacciatore, clams casino, oysters…and he’s up all night with heartburn.

We didn’t bother watching any of the uninteresting games on Christmas Day (very sad for the Lions), but Saturday and Sunday should offer ones we would like to watch. We’re having a regular Friday today. Woody is shopping, I am doing the personal laundry. We’ll have a sensible supper tonight before the weekend gets going socially.
