Finally Done! Done at Last!

We have canned our final tomato and frozen our final beans. I froze four more pounds yesterday, which makes 19 1/2 – enough for our winter, Now we’ll just eat our produce and continue to share it with friends. I picked eight gorgeous Arapaho hot peppers this morning. Each one is a thing of bright red beauty 7-9 inches long. I plan to freeze five of them. I’ll bring one to our friends Jeff and Eleanor, who are hosting us this evening.  I’ll send over another to Chaim and Theresa on her birthday. She says no presents. Woody will go Tuesday evening, but when I work with Nina, who is young and energetic and smart, so we get a huge amount done, afterward I collapse. I don’t want to talk, I don’t want to do anything. I’ll have to make myself a very simple supper Tuesday evening. I’ll open a can of salmon and eat a yellow tomato. Maybe have a rice cracker with it.

This morning was cool and lovely.  I worked in the garden planting much arugula, some dill, cilantro, Jerico lettuce hat can tolerate heat.  I came in tired out. I’ll take sometime late in the afternoon  to watch a couple of stakes races at Saratoga. We’ll be out when the Traverse, that slayer of champions, is on but I’ll tape it and watch it Sunday afternoon if I have time. We’re rewatching OPPENHEIMER. Started it last night, will finish It tomorrow or Monday evening. I lived through a lot of that but Woody didn’t so he had trouble following the time shifts. This time around he understood them so is getting more out of the film than he did the first time through.

 I only watch TV form 7 to 9:30 or 10, except for the evening news on NBC. They seem to show the least influence of what Trump wants and hates. Again, Yosemite can’t profit him so get rid of  it. Sell some of it off to a developer. I doubt he has ever just walked in the woods enjoying nature.  If he had, he probably would be a bit saner. Lake America?  I’m pleasantly surprised he didn’t try to rename it Lake Trump.

When the weather stays cool for a while, I’ll plant many kinds of lettuce for the fall and also endive and escarole. I used to get many cabbages, raddichio, Chinese cabbage, etc .in the fall, but now it’s too hot. Summer extends well into November most years now. I did manage to get some Chinese cabbage and some smallish but tasty Savoy cabbage in the spring.

My pollinator garden [planted with flowers that attract bees of all kinds, butterflies when any still come, and hummingbirds] is still offering blooms. Soon the big patch of blue asters will attract them. I have to get time to go cut chive blossoms chive blossom vinegar, my favorite along with the aged balsamic vinegar we buy.

We’ve now gone through all sections of my new poetry book although there’s a poem I wrote last weekend I want to add to the nature section. I have yet to name the sections, come up with a title, pull together the acknowledgments, and read it totally through.
