Eye Troubles Again
Nothing is built for small women; everything is built for men. This is especially true when I have eye tests and I simply don’t fit into the slots and chin rests and the techs have to push me into the machines and hold me there which hurts. Eyes, 2. Face, 3. Shoulders, 4. Then, neck: 5. The breast they were pushing into cold l hard metal is still painful days later. When I got out, I was shaking badly. I finally slept Thursday night and that was a huge relief. I hadn’t been able to sleep two nights because of the pain. Couldn’t find a comfortable or even bearable position.
I had a delicious meal at Moby Dicks celebrating our anniversary 50 years together. Then Friday night, we went over to Tasha’s for dinner together. We’ll give her all the remaining tomato plants I started inside—they were extras just in case. Great food and good conversation as always.
I planted some of the marigolds I started from seed. The nasturtiums had poor germination as they got drowned when we had a heavy rain. A few came up but most haven’t and probably won’t’. Too bad. I’m fond of nasturtiums not only for looking at, but for eating in salads.
I’m working on revisng a tricky poem that keeps not finishing. Needs more work but haven’t sorted it out yet.
Today I’ve taken to my garden to weed and to pull Chinese cabbage that has bolted. We lost all cucumbers in a cold night this week. They are the pickiest of plants. At least for us. I have some extra parsleys that probably should go in a deep pot, as the herb bed is full. Woody moved all the remaining plants out of the greenhouse because it gets too hot for them these days. They sit on the old potting bench to be planted when we can. Woody has the lower garden ready so today he’ll plant pole beans. We only grow pole beans as they ae slower to bear than bush beans, but they go on bearing till a killer frost. Beans that I freeze are one of our winter staples
I didn’t get to read more of the book on Proto-Indo European languages. I couldn’t see well much of the week and we’ve been extremely busy, both of us.
