Cool Weather? We Persist!

This week has been uncommonly cool in New England – May seldom gets daytime 40s. Both my garden and Woody’s are fully planted now. He has been laying down irrigation hoses, first in y garden [the farthest uphill\] and then his garden, the main garden. I still have the pollinator beds, the peony garden and the garden and pots out front to deal with. He will do most of the work in the lower garden, down by the road, but I will likely take part. We’re done with buying vegetables except for onions and avocadoes, as we’re growing enough to eat. I have been using the bok choi in stir fries. I’ve been determined to use it also as a regular vegetable this year, and tonight along with the turkey thighs and chickpeas, I’ll make bok choi with garlic, olive oil, fresh ginger and soy sauce.

I signed the contract for THE HOUR OF MIY DEATH with Sybiline books, an independent press in California that specializes in older women’s writing. I am very very relieved to have a publisher at last. They’re taking a chance on a peculiar work by an 89 year old woman. We’re celebrating Saturday night at Gigi and Ralph’s.  We’ll bring champagne. We had a bottle last night between ourselves while eating flounder with sauteed bananas, sauce of lemon and Madeira.

Tonight there will be turkey thigh left over that is already cooked. I want to take the meat off the bone and then Sunday, make a turkey pot pie.  I love my own pies. I make good crust.

I’m waiting to meet [on email] my editor at Sybiline. Curious what she/he will ask for and want me to add or subtract.

Writing poems, Now sitting  here waiting for the much publicized nor’easter to arrive. So far just gentle rain that we desperately need. The mainland has gotten soaked. We’re in a drought. Fire danger is high just about every day.We have two tree peonies in gorgeous bloom as well as wood scillas and a pale blue flower – steeple shaped – that  I planted some years ago and that has spread but I’ve forgotten its name. lavender periwinkle also on the south side of the house and outside  the greenhouse. I adore May!  So green, so suddenly lush after winter austerity,

The news is infuriating and depressing. So much good undone. Generations fo women and men organizing, working hard to pass laws and create entities that can help those of us not billionaires. Imagine hating education and especially higher education. Women should be pregnant and barefoot and ignorant. Men should be macho and ignorant. We should hate and despise everybody who want’ born speaking English or who isn’t white. Especially those who have less money and things. We are dirt under MAGA’s marching feet.
