Be Careful What You Wish For
We are being happily inundated by tomatoes and beans – the former to be canned in various ways, the later to be frozen and all to be eaten till we turn red and green. We are also enjoying much zucchini and patty-pans and Oriental eggplants. Only one Italian so far, but a many Orientals as we can eat. We give away some patty-pans and zucchini, but we. can’t spare any tomatoes. So far, we’re dealing with all the pole beans produce. What we did this week was can tomatoes as tomatoes – not made into sauce. . We had a skimpy harvest last year, si at we were lowest on, although we use more sauce than canned tomatoes. We had sucha skimpy tomato harvest last year that I don’t think we canned any, just made sauce.
I’m close to finishing up working on the comments of miy prose editor at Sybylline. I hope to get through the last 23 pp. this weekend. The I plan to take a week off and get back to poetry. Then, the week after, I’l start on the poetry editor.
I find that recipes for Italian eggplant just don’t work for the long thin Oriental egg plants. I am still working out ways to use the Orientals. Roasting is one way I’ve found. I do love roasted vegetables. I tried looking on the internet for recipes but it turns out that oriental eggplant recipes that just brings me Italian eggplant recipes cooking in a fusion style.
We went over to the Grotz’s house for a delicious dinner cooked by Tasha. Stephanie is in the Berkshires, where she is spending the summer. I don’t know how people with two houses manage. When we had an apartment in Cambridge when we were first together, whatever I needed was always in the other place.
sI will never understand why mice come into the house when they can smell three cats. And why in the middle of the summer? There’s no shortage of stuff to eat outside. We had another big mouse hunt this week – successful as always. It took them three days to get the jumping mouse, but with regular mice and voles, it’s over in half an hour at most.
I’m enjoying a patch of sleeping well, after a strength of the opposite. For one reason, I was in pain at night then; now, much better. When I’m able to sleep on my right side part of the night, I sleep better than I can when I have to spend the whole night sleeping on my back. Willow always enjoys when I sleep on my side as she can curl into me completely.
I had a good appointment on Thursday with my newish eye doctor. The new eye drops I am using for glaucoma, I am NOT allergic to and just the one shot in both eyes at night when I climb into bed seems to be working well. A great relief.
He said, we were running out of options at my prior visit, so I’m very glad we have found eye drops that my eyes can handle.
