THE WEEK THAT WAS

There isn’t a lot to say about this week as every moment was spent in class, class activities, conferences  and preparing for all of the above.  The rain held off Tuesday night so we were able to have the beach party at Newcomb Hollow with a bonfire.  Friday the workshop ended with the party at our house with lots of good food and beverages.  The weather was great all week.  We have even had to start watering again for the first time in at least three weeks, maybe four. The group was good and seemed to bond in clusters, mostly.  Everyone came to the party this year [last year half of them left after the last class] although one                     poet got the time wrong and came when everyone else had gone and we were cleaning up.  Glyn did his Dylan Thomas performance – he dresses up as the poet as he too is Welsh with that wonderful accent and a melodious voice.  It was the highlight of the party – except for the food.  Last night we started more gravlax as all we had got eaten.  The group reading at the library Wednesday night went very well. The room was full, every seat  taken.  A warm and enthusiastic audience. I read only new poems, all but one written in the last month. The brocolli is coming in waves to get us.  Many sugar snaps. I took off cooking from Monday through Thursday, but Friday of course I cooked all afternoon for the party.  Now normality returns.  I made a stir fry last night with the sugar snaps. We have many cukes suddenly and the first yellow squash and zucchini and patty pans.  Soon the garlic will be ready to harvest. I haven’t written anything all week.  I feel quite empty.  I spent Saturday straightening my bedroom because all week I had dressed & undressed with such haste that everything I had worn was in a large pile  My room looked like a scene from the TV program Hoarders.  Sunday I went to work on my office and took out a whole big garbage bag of papers.  I can actually see the floor now and observe that my desk is made of wood. The cats were angry with me.  Sugar Ray still won’t come back to sleep with me but they are open to being bribed.  Treats for Puck & Xena & Efi, petting for Sugar Ray & the others too; playtime with Mingus and Puck.  Even Sugar was playing yesterday. It’s hot and humid today.  I just turned on the AC in my office.  I’m trying to catch up on the mail and bills and promises to contribute.
