Wonderful Feast, Excellent News

I saw my eye doctor Friday and she diagnosed my problem. I have been taking the drug Timolol for my glaucoma for more than 25 years. Every year, it was prescribed again and again. I turns out it can turn on your and poison you. In fact, it can kill you, affect your heart and lungs. I’m off it finally. Even better news, the new eye drops have lowered my pressure to an acceptable level.

I saw my regular doctor, Dr Shay, on Wednesday and he prescribed an ointment that has really helped reduce the pain and itching and swelling. My eyes are almost normal – some redness and roughness in the skin around the eyes but getting better everyday.

We had a wonderful and easier Thanksgiving than most. Woody and I cooked together while watching the Lions (win!). I made apple cranberry sauce, a rum pumpkin pie and the stuffed pumpkin. Woody cooked the turkey on a spit and also made what he insists on calling his ‘famous’ Caesar salad. Dale cooked a great stuffing and a delicious potato/Eastham turnip dish. Eastham turnips are a breed unlike any other (believe me, we’ve tried, as have many gardeners we know) and much better. The terroir? It’s a mystery mucvh discussed in these parts. Tasha made three kinds of hors d ’oeuvres. It was delightful, the whole evening. The bushy-tailed gang (Schwartz and Shaman( had a great time as both Tasha and Stephen gave them lots of attention. Willow hid, of course, until the instant everybody left.  I ate too much and  had trouble falling asleep, as did Woody. I got up around two and found shaman in the tub with a mouse and the two other cats sitting on the rim, watching. I found a few remnants in the tub this morning.

I’m looking forward to getting the house back together today, Friday.  Leftovers tonight. We had a good rain yesterday.  Today is cold and sunny. We’re in for a stint of quite cold weather with the temperature going below freezing several nights. We had only one such night so far.

Tomorrow we’re planning to go out and buy a tree and set it up. We usually get a tree from Bayberry. I know there’s a shortage this year because of the terrible drought and the wildfires, so Woody is determined we go soon to find a good bushy one. They’re ouyraiously expensive but a treat and a tradition we love.

I want to get my bedroom straightened up. It’s kind of a mess. I have lots of shoes from before my ankle accident in Detroit and before Covid. Several pairs  no longer fit. It’s boring to go through them, but it’s silly to have shoes I can’t wear. I just keep putting it off.
