The Indoor Flood

On Sunday we had an indoor drought. We woke to find the downstairs laundry room flooded and water coming ever more intensively from not a house pipe but the pipe bringing in water from our well.

It got worse until Woody was emptying a bucket every hour. We called our plumber but got no answer on a Sunday.  Finally, Woody called the well man.  He came eventually and worked on it.  He replaced the tank with one he had on hand, fixed the leak and came back later in the week to replace it with a new one. After being without water most of the day, by supper time we finally had water again.

Shaman as he grows, also grows more rambunctious.  He is into everything.  We have to remove him from the dishwasher when we are loading, remove him from the refrigerator when we take anything out, be super careful to shut him out of the laundry room on Sundays and Mondays. He is at the somewhat awkward stage that kittens go through when they don’t understand they don’t fit in all the places they used to and have explored most of the house.

We are getting a slow trickle of tomatoes and have managed to can 12 ½ pints so far and even have been eating them.  The beans are till coming in –will probably freeze two ½ lbs, good for soup and stews. I gave beans to two friends, including Tasha last night when she made dinner for us and two other friends.  Great meal, great company.

Eggplants, peppers still coming in. I made a delicious Greek dish this week of lamb sausage and peppers that I served over rigatoni.  Today we are to go to a barbeque in Eastham.  This morning, French Toast for breakfast and then out into to go. At least I’ll thin them preparatory to planting maybe tomorrow.

This has been a busy week gardening in the welcome cooler weather and putting food up for winter ad of course dealing with the water problems, I only wrote and rewrote two poems this week. So far, town feels less crowded than usua this Labor Day weekend.  Every house we pass belonging to summer people is occupied, so maybe its tourists and day trippers who are here in smaller numbers this year.

Shaman is just as super affectionate as he has been since we brought him home, in spite of his new rambunctiousness.   What a long word that is, by the way. We were both sorry that Serena lost on Friday night.  I’ve always rooted for her.
