Goodbye to my PT!
My physical therapist discharged me Thursday. Now I am on my own, for a couple of weeks at least. I’ll still do all the exercises she gave me. It consumes my entire morning, although she released me to do only four repetitions instead of six. She thinks I am doing great. Fortunately I have a lot of upper body strength and oddly enough that helps the knee. I’m finally taking baths.Because of the blebs in my eyes from two of the glaucoma operations in the 90s, I can’t get water in my eyes so I was showering with my eyes shut. The bathroom got most of the water; me, not so much. Being cleared by Jenn to take baths makes me very happy and prevents me from rotting away the bathroom floor any further than the six weeks of dousing may have done. I feel cleaner and happier.I had fun with my PT in spite of her torturing me. I like her. She sings with a rock band and has a great sense of humor so we laughed a lot. I’’ll miss her but not her habit of giving me a new painful exercise every time she saw me. the one thing I am not doing is walking. I was set to walk yesterday but Woody vetoed it because even to get to the Senior Center, which has a nice long straight hall, or one of the supermarkets, I would have to navigate an icy parkinglot. I have been seeing my fine chiro Lori twice now. Some of the exercises for my knee are hard and painful for my back. Go figure.I wrote a couple of poems this week and read all the poems submitted to Lilith. I’m only permitted by the publisher to choose 5 or 6 poems from 97 mss. and it is very hard. Finally I made my selections yesterday and Monday if Melenie can get in here [she didn’t work Wednesday because her road wasn’t plowed.] We had a huge snowstorm on Tuesday into Wednesday very late afternoon – about a foot of snow here. It has been bitter cold again so at least the snow was fluffy and not heavy and sodden like the last storm. It is some winter, which makes it hard for me to do the walking that would be good for my cyborg knee. We didn’t lose power this time, amazing luck. Downtown did and a wide swath along route six from Eastham to Truro. The snow is very beautiful but keeps us cooped up.Of course last Sunday was a downer. Very depressing to watch. Belichick has got to buy Brady some wide receivers. Dobson just didn’t work out nor did Boyce, at least so far. They need another tight end who won’t kill anybody or go down with injuries ever few games. It’s amazing they got as far as they did, mostly on guts and heart.I’ve finally started on my Outspoken Authors book for PM Press. I have been reading a bunch of essays I’ve published over the years and rewrote two and wrote and polished a new one. It’s a start. Now that I’ve actually gotten to it, it feels less daunting. The seeds have begun to arrive and although the world is black and white, mostly white, as far as I can see, I can imagine spring.
